Why train to become a nursing professional?
The three-year generalist training programme for nursing professionals provides comprehensive knowledge of geriatric care, nursing and paediatric nursing. Since 2020, it has been the new standard programme in Germany for training nursing professionals and offers many advantages. As a nursing professional, you will support, care for and advise people of all ages based on a holistic care concept, allowing you to work in a wide range of exciting fields.

The training programme at a glance
The three-year training programme consists of theoretical and practical instruction at our academy (at least 2,100 hours) and practical assignments at a training company (at least 2,500 hours).

The practical training takes place at an appropriate institution (hospital, nursing home, care service, etc.). There you will receive a training contract and your corresponding training allowance. You are free to choose a training company for your practical training in Berlin. However, we are happy to advise you on your choice and other topics before your training begins.
Training years and focus areas

In the first two years, generalist content is taught, covering all age groups and areas of care.

In the third year, students have the option of choosing to specialise in a particular area (e.g. geriatric care, paediatric nursing) or continuing with generalist training.

Qualification
The training programme concludes with a state final examination consisting of a written, oral and practical component. Upon passing this examination, you will receive the title of state-recognised nursing professional (recognised throughout the EU).
Your responsibilities as a nursing professional
As a state-recognised nurse, you will take on a wide range of tasks, including:

Independently carrying out and documenting nursing processes

Determining individual care needs and creating care plans
-
Assisting with diagnostics and therapy, e.g. assisting with medical procedures
-
Carrying out medical procedures (e.g. wound care, injections)
-
Advising and instructing patients and relatives
-
Participating in rehabilitation and preventive measures
-
Interdisciplinary cooperation with doctors, therapists and social services.​

Requirements
For domestic applicants:

MSA (secondary school leaving certificate); alternatively: extended vocational training qualification or vocational training qualification with completed 2-year training or vocational training qualification with completed 1-year nursing assistant training

Good health and motivation
-
Sufficient knowledge of German*
The following generally applies to international applicants:

Recognition of school education: Your school leaving certificate must be recognised in Germany. An equivalence assessment is often required to ensure that the qualification meets German standards, e.g. intermediate level.

Proof of German language skills: At least level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference)*

Health suitability

Visa and residence permit: Applicants from third countries must have a valid visa or residence permit that allows them to live and study in Germany.
